About Sharon Dowsett
Sharon originally hails from Bournemouth, Dorset. Her enthusiasm for music began at an early age when she started playing recorder and singing in the Bournemouth Primary Schools Choir, moving on to the flute when she was 10.
She studied music at Kings College London where she completed their academic degree and was selected to follow their advanced performance course, successfully auditioning to receive flute tuition at the Royal Academy of Music with Kate Hill. After graduating with a first class Honours degree, she went on to train in flute performance at the Birmingham Conservatoire where she was awarded the prestigious Postgraduate Prize in 2003, and finally completed her performance studies at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow this June.
Her teachers have included Alison Mitchell and Richard Blake, and she has also been lucky enough to gain inspiration from performing in master-classes with renowned professors such as William Bennett, Trevor Wye, Jaime Martin and Peter Lloyd.
As an orchestral player, Sharon has performed across the country at prestigious venues including St John's Smith Square, the Royal Courts of Justice, Birmingham's Symphony Hall and Glasgow's City Halls on all the members of the flute family. Most recently she has been playing with the RSAMD Symphony Orchestra and Opera, in their highly acclaimed presentation of Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmelites. She also played principal flute with the RSNO in their side-by-side scheme in June.
Sharon performs on a hand-made Tom Green flute.
